What is Eczema??
Eczema is a skin condition that causes the skin to become red, irritated and itchy. Sometimes small, fluid-filled bumps appear on the skin as well. Eczema most common in infants. Many people outgrow it by early adulthood.
Triggers
The following can trigger or worsen eczema symptoms:-
- Allergy to pollen in the air, mold, dust mites or animals
- Colds or flu
- Dry skin
- Exposure to environmental irritants
- Fragrances or dyes added to skin lotions or soaps
- Stress
- Food allergies
Symptoms
1. Usually, the first symptom is intense itching
2. Rash appears later; is red and bumpy
3. The rash itches or burns
4. If it is scratched, it may ooze and become crusty
5. Chronic rubbing produces thickened plaques of skin
6. Painful cracks can develop over time
In children younger than age 2, skin lesions begin on he face, scalp, hands, and feet. It is often a crusting or oozing rash.
Self care
- Remove whatever is causing the allergic reaction change laundry detergent
- Prevent dry skin by taking warm showers or baths.
- Avoid wearing tight-fitting, rough clothing.
- Avoid scratching the rash. If you cant stop yourself from scratching, cover the area with a dressing.
- Eat, do light exercise, and rest well.
